What Canadian shoppers ask

The questions ES shoppers bring to the showroom.

Drawn from 1,343 ES comments posted since 2023 on the MotorMouth YouTube channel. Question themes sit apart from verified vehicle facts and help prepare a more useful test drive.

01

Which ES should I choose?

Hybrid and electric power come up in 177 comments, and engine and power in 84. The 2027 ES comes three ways, none of them gas-only: the ES 350h hybrid pairs a 2.5-litre four-cylinder with electric motors for 244 hp combined and has all-wheel drive on every Canadian grade. The ES 350e is a front-wheel-drive battery electric with 221 hp, and the ES 500e adds a rear motor for 338 hp and DIRECT4 all-wheel drive, according to Lexus Canada.

Take this to your test drive

Drive the ES 350h and one of the electric models on the same route, and if you face snowy winters, note that the ES 350e is the only front-wheel-drive version.

02

What does it cost?

Price and value come up in 122 comments. Lexus Canada lists the 2027 ES from $59,685 for the ES 350h Signature to $78,095 for the ES 350e Executive VIP. The electric ES 350e starts at $62,650 and the ES 500e at $65,640. Lexus Canada's estimated vehicle price for the ES 350h Signature is $63,115, including freight, PDI, the A/C charge and maximum dealer and other fees, before taxes and licence. ES 350h prices are $215 lower than for 2026.

Take this to your test drive

Ask for the all-in price with freight and fees in writing, and ask which EV rebates, if any, apply to the ES 350e and ES 500e when you buy.

03

How far will the electric ES go?

Fuel economy and range come up in 34 comments. Lexus Canada estimates up to 480 km (298 mi) on a full charge for the 2027 ES 350e. Its 2026 estimates, at 20 to 30 °C, were 481 km (299 mi) for the ES 350e on 19-inch wheels and 470 km (292 mi) on 21-inch wheels, and 444 km (276 mi) and 438 km (272 mi) for the ES 500e. Both use a 74.7 kWh battery. Natural Resources Canada ratings were not available when this guide was built, and Lexus Canada has not published fuel consumption for the ES 350h in its releases.

Take this to your test drive

Ask the dealer for the official Natural Resources Canada figures, and remember that range drops in cold weather and on the larger 21-inch wheels.

04

How fast does it charge?

Both electric models use a North American Charging System (NACS) port behind a power-operated door on the passenger-side front fender. DC fast charging runs at up to 150 kW, about 28 minutes from 10 to 80%, and the 11 kW on-board charger takes about 7 hours on Level 2, according to Lexus Canada. A dual-voltage charging cable is standard and battery preconditioning is available. Toyota's global release, using prototype values, says a 10 to 80% fast charge takes about 40 minutes at 0 °C and about 60 minutes at -10 °C.

Take this to your test drive

Ask whether a CCS charging adapter comes with the car in Canada, and price a home Level 2 charger before you buy.

05

Will I like the new design?

Styling comes up in 506 comments, more than any other topic, and many longtime ES owners say they prefer the previous design. The eighth-generation ES is all-new, with what Lexus calls Clean Tech X Elegance design, and the electric models have a drag coefficient of 0.25, according to Lexus Canada. Every grade has 19-inch aero alloy wheels, and the Luxury+ and ES 350e Executive VIP grades move to 21-inch wheels. One viewer who has seen and driven it wrote: "I didn’t like it as first because it deviated so much from the old ES. But having seen it and driven it in person, it grew on me."

Take this to your test drive

See it in person and in daylight before you decide, and compare the 19-inch and 21-inch wheels side by side.

06

Is it bigger than the old ES?

Space, cargo and rear seats come up in 33 comments. The new ES is 165 mm (6.5 in) longer, 56 mm (2.2 in) wider and 115 mm (4.5 in) taller than the previous generation, on an 80 mm (3.1 in) longer wheelbase, with 36 mm (1.4 in) more rear legroom and 10 mm (0.4 in) more rear headroom, according to Lexus Canada. Toyota's global prototype figures put it at 5,140 mm (202.4 in) long. Lexus Canada says it seats five adults; trunk volume is not published in its releases.

Sit in the back behind your own driving position, and bring the luggage you carry most to check the trunk opening.

07

What tech comes with it?

Interior and tech come up in 199 comments, many about the move from buttons to screens. Every 2027 ES has a 14-inch touchscreen with the newest Lexus Interface, a 12.3-inch digital display, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a wireless charging dock, four USB ports and 10-speaker audio. Higher grades add a 17-speaker Mark Levinson system, head-up display, digital key and Advanced Park, and the ES 350e Executive VIP adds reclining, heated and ventilated rear massage seats with a passenger-side ottoman, according to Lexus Canada. One viewer wrote: "I’ve felt this way since the ES came out. I know a lot of people don’t like this interior, but I actually don’t mind it."

Take this to your test drive

Spend time with the touchscreen and touch controls before you drive off, and check that the climate and seat controls you use most are easy to reach.

08

What driver assistance does it have?

Safety comes up in 9 comments, and viewers mention the driver attention chime. Every ES has Lexus Safety System+ 4.0, Blind Spot Monitor with Rear Cross Traffic Alert, Safe Exit Assist and 10 airbags. Premium grades add Front Cross Traffic Alert, Lane Change Assist, Traffic Jam Assist with a Drive Connect subscription, and Intuitive Parking Assist with automatic braking, according to Lexus Canada. One viewer wrote: "Agreed, love the interior. Also agreed, resent the incessant attention chime."

Drive on the highway long enough to hear the alerts, and ask the dealer which warnings you can adjust in the settings.
