What Canadian shoppers ask

The questions Mazda3 shoppers bring to the showroom.

Drawn from 90 Mazda3 comments posted since 2023 on the MotorMouth YouTube channel. Question themes sit apart from verified vehicle facts and help prepare a more useful test drive.

01

Sedan or Mazda3 Sport?

Both body styles come in the same trims. The Mazda3 Sport hatchback costs $750 more than the matching sedan, and it is the only one offered with a six-speed manual, on the GT. Natural Resources Canada rates the FWD sedan at 7.8 L/100 km (30 mpg US) combined and the FWD Sport at 7.9 L/100 km (30 mpg US).

Take this to your test drive

Load your usual cargo into both and check the rear seat, then decide whether you want the hatchback opening or the sedan trunk.

02

What does it cost?

Price and value come up in 17 comments. Mazda Canada lists the 2026 Mazda3 sedan from $25,250 for the GX to $38,450 for the GT Turbo, and the Mazda3 Sport from $26,000 to $39,200. Adding all-wheel drive to the GS Luxury Package or GT adds $2,000. Freight and PDE add $2,095.

Take this to your test drive

Ask for the all-in price with freight and fees, and list the features you want to see whether the GS or GS Luxury Package covers them.

03

Do I need all-wheel drive?

Winter driving and all-wheel drive come up in 16 comments. Front-wheel drive is standard, i-Activ all-wheel drive is available on the GS Luxury Package and GT, and the GT Turbo has it as standard. Heated front seats and heated mirrors come on every Mazda3, the GS adds a heated steering wheel and the GT adds a front wiper de-icer. An AWD Mazda3 Sport owner wrote: "I got myself a AWD Mazda3 hatch in 2022, new. Still love it, the suspension is fantastic, every pothole is just a muted thud, it's very solid."

Take this to your test drive

Budget for winter tires either way, and drive an FWD and an AWD car if you are unsure which you need.

04

Should I get the turbo?

Engine and power come up in 28 comments. The GT Turbo uses the Skyactiv-G 2.5 Turbo, rated at 250 hp and 320 lb-ft on premium fuel, with standard all-wheel drive, 18-inch black alloy wheels and larger dual exhaust outlets. Natural Resources Canada rates the turbo sedan at 8.8 L/100 km (27 mpg US) combined. Plenty of owners are happy with the standard engine too: "I love the NA 2.5L engine. I have that in my Mazda3, and it's fantastic. Very linear power delivery."

Take this to your test drive

Drive the standard engine and the turbo on the same route, including a highway merge, to see whether you want the extra power.

05

What tech comes with it?

Interior and tech come up in 28 comments. The GX has an 8.8-inch Mazda Connect display with wired Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and the GS moves to a 10.25-inch display that works as a touchscreen with wireless Apple CarPlay or Android Auto, plus wireless charging. The GT adds 12-speaker Bose audio, a 360-degree camera, a head-up display and Cruising and Traffic Support.

Take this to your test drive

Pair your phone on the test drive and check which trim adds the features you will use every day.

06

What comes standard?

Every 2026 Mazda3 includes radar cruise control with Stop and Go, Smart Brake Support, Lane Keep Assist, Blind Spot Monitoring with Rear Cross Traffic Alert, push-button start, automatic climate control, heated front seats, LED headlights and 16-inch alloy wheels, with Mazda Connected Services for one year. One owner wrote: "Mazda includes so many standard features, the base models are usually fantastic."

Take this to your test drive

Compare the GX and GS side by side, since the GS adds the larger screen, wireless phone features and a heated steering wheel.

07

Does the design stand out?

Styling comes up in 21 comments. The sedan has a matte black grille and the Mazda3 Sport a gloss black grille, and the GT Turbo adds black wheels, Jet Black mirrors and Turbo badging. Premium colours include Soul Red Crystal Metallic, Machine Grey Metallic, Polymetal Grey Metallic and Ceramic Metallic. A Mazda3 Sport GT owner wrote: "Love it, love the new colour ceramic metallic with red interior."

Take this to your test drive

See both body styles in daylight in the colour you want before you decide.

08

Can I get a manual?

Yes, on the Mazda3 Sport. The Skyactiv-MT six-speed manual comes on the Mazda3 Sport GT with front-wheel drive at $34,800, and Natural Resources Canada rates it at 8.3 L/100 km (28 mpg US) combined. Every other Mazda3 uses a six-speed automatic with a manual shift mode.

Take this to your test drive

Ask whether a manual is on the lot or needs to be ordered, and book a test drive in one if you can.
