What Canadian shoppers ask

The questions Corolla Cross shoppers bring to the showroom.

Drawn from 1,997 Corolla Cross comments posted since 2023 on the MotorMouth YouTube channel. Question themes sit apart from verified vehicle facts and help prepare a more useful test drive.

01

Gas or hybrid?

The hybrid choice is the biggest theme, raised in 567 Corolla Cross comments. The Hybrid adds 27 hp over the gas model, comes with all-wheel drive as standard and is rated at 5.6 L/100 km (42 mpg US) combined, against 7.8 L/100 km (30 mpg US) for the gas AWD, according to Toyota Canada. One hybrid owner wrote: "I opted for the Corolla Cross Hybrid this year and I love it. I had a CRV prior, but am spending half at the pump than before."

Compare the LE Premium AWD and the Hybrid SE on price and equipment, since they sit about $1,930 apart.

02

What does it cost?

Price and value come up in 439 comments. Toyota Canada lists the 2026 Corolla Cross from $28,580 for the L FWD to $37,885 for the XLE AWD, with the Hybrid SE at $35,810 and the Hybrid XSE at $38,635.

Ask for the all-in price with freight and fees, and the expected delivery time for the trim and colour you want.

03

Is it ready for a Canadian winter?

Winter driving and all-wheel drive come up in 90 comments. Gas AWD trims use Dynamic Torque Control, which can send up to 50% of power to the rear, and the Hybrid has Electronic On-Demand AWD as standard. The XLE AWD and Hybrid XSE add heated rear seats. One viewer recommends it for exactly that: "It's become my go-to recommendation for anybody who wants an SUV that's straightforward to use and has all the creature comforts you'd need to survive the 4 seasons of Canada."

Take this to your test drive

Ask whether the trim you want has a heated steering wheel and heated rear seats, and fit winter tires either way.

04

Corolla Cross or RAV4?

Size is a common question, and space and cargo come up in 92 comments, often alongside the larger RAV4. The Corolla Cross seats five with a 60/40 split rear seat, and with an available tow hitch it can tow up to 1,500 lb (680 kg), according to Toyota Canada. One LE owner chose the smaller SUV: "It's a perfect size for me as I found the Rav4 to be too big."

Bring what you carry most, from strollers to hockey bags, and test it in the cargo area with the seats up and folded.

05

Does the new design stand out?

Styling is discussed in 309 comments. For 2026 the Hybrid gets a colour-matched grille and new bumper, the gas model a wider, more rugged grille, and new colours include Cavalry Blue with an available Jet Black roof on the Hybrid, according to Toyota Canada. One owner wrote: "It's a nice-looking car that's just the right size for what I need."

See the gas and hybrid models side by side, since the front styling now differs between them.

06

What tech do I get?

Interior and tech come up in 241 comments. Every 2026 Corolla Cross has Toyota Safety Sense 3.0 and at least an 8-inch touchscreen. A 10.5-inch touchscreen is newly available, including on the LE Premium and both Hybrid trims, and the XLE and Hybrid XSE add a 12.3-inch digital gauge cluster, according to Toyota Canada.

Try the 8-inch and 10.5-inch screens back to back, and pair your phone before you leave the lot.

07

How much fuel will it use?

Fuel economy comes up in 146 comments. Toyota Canada estimates 7.3 L/100 km (32 mpg US) combined for the gas FWD, 7.8 L/100 km (30 mpg US) for the gas AWD and 5.6 L/100 km (42 mpg US) for the Hybrid.

Take this to your test drive

Ask the dealer to estimate your yearly fuel cost for the gas AWD and the Hybrid using your own driving.

08

How does it drive?

Engine and power come up in 188 comments. The Hybrid's 196 net hp takes it from 0 to 100 km/h in 8.2 seconds, according to Toyota Canada, and the gas model's CVT uses a physical first gear for pulling away. A parent whose daughter bought one wrote: "I was stunned how smooth the switch is from the electric to the gas drive."

Drive the gas and hybrid models on the same route, including a highway merge.
