What Canadian shoppers ask

The questions Crown shoppers bring to the showroom.

Drawn from 456 comments on MotorMouth's Crown sedan videos posted since 2023 on the MotorMouth YouTube channel. Question themes sit apart from verified vehicle facts and help prepare a more useful test drive.

01

Limited or Platinum: which hybrid should I pick?

For 2027 the Crown Limited moves to Toyota's fifth-generation hybrid system, a 2.5-litre engine with front and rear electric motors and an eCVT, rated at 236 hp on toyota.ca. The Platinum keeps Hybrid MAX, a 2.4-litre turbo engine with a six-speed automatic, making 340 net combined hp and 400 lb-ft, according to Toyota Canada. The Limited uses less fuel; the Platinum is the quicker, more powerful choice. One viewer summed up the choice: "A sedan with amazing mpg or a sedan with amazing power and good mpg."

02

What does it cost?

Toyota Canada lists the 2027 Crown at $55,365 for the Limited and $64,985 for the Platinum. Its estimated vehicle prices are $58,953 and $68,573, including freight, PDI, the A/C charge and maximum dealer and other fees, before taxes and licence. Toyota Canada says the 2027 Crown goes on sale in fall 2026. An owner a year in wrote: "I drive a Toyota Crown for a year and I have never been so impressed by a vehicle in my life."

03

How much fuel does it use?

Toyota Canada rates the 2027 Crown Limited at 5.6 L/100 km (42 mpg US) city, 6.2 L/100 km (38 mpg US) highway and 5.8 L/100 km (41 mpg US) combined, and the Platinum at 7.8 L/100 km (30 mpg US) combined. Natural Resources Canada has not yet published 2027 ratings; its 2026 rating for the Hybrid MAX Crown is the same 7.8 L/100 km (30 mpg US) combined. A large-sedan fan wrote of the Hybrid MAX: "This checks the powerful and fast boxes and gets way better gas mileage then my current sedan that checks those."

Reset the trip computer at the start of your test drive and include some highway driving to see the figure on your own route.

04

What is new for 2027, and does the design stand out?

Besides the new hybrid system in the Limited, the 2027 Crown gets a newly sculpted rear bumper, HEV and AWD badging in a satin finish and a new black paint called Inked. The Platinum adds red brake calipers and a black belt window surround as standard, according to Toyota Canada. Other colours are Oxygen White, Bronze Age, Heavy Metal, Finish Line Red and Storm Cloud. One viewer noted: "I saw an all black Crown and it’s really sharp looking"

See the colour you want in daylight, and compare a single-colour car with a two-tone one if the dealer has both.

05

How does it drive?

Both grades use MacPherson strut front and multilink rear suspension with Active Cornering Assist. The Limited has swing valve shock absorbers, standard paddle shifters for 2027 and four drive modes. The Platinum adds Adaptive Variable Suspension, Dynamic Rear Steering and a fifth drive mode, Rear Comfort, according to Toyota Canada. A Crown Platinum owner wrote: "The Crown rides like a vault on wheels. So quiet. The ride in comfort mode is very smooth and power delivery is fantastic."

Take this to your test drive

Try each drive mode on the same stretch of road, including a rough patch, and listen for cabin noise at highway speed.

06

How much room is there?

The Crown seats five, and toyota.ca lists 430 L (15.2 cu ft) of cargo space. It is 4,980 mm (196.1 in) long on a 2,850 mm (112.2 in) wheelbase. The Platinum adds a hands-free power trunk, according to Toyota Canada. One viewer who test drove it wrote: "Liked the ride quality of the Crown, but I agree with Andrea, wished that Toyota would have designed the Crown with a large trunk, or a made it a compact crossover."

Take this to your test drive

Bring your usual luggage, golf bag or stroller and check the trunk opening, then sit in the back seat behind your own driving position.

07

Is it ready for winter?

Every 2027 Crown has all-wheel drive. The Limited's system uses a separate rear electric motor to drive the rear wheels when needed, and the Platinum has full-time electronic AWD with an eAxle. Both have heated and ventilated front seats, heated rear seats and a heated steering wheel, according to Toyota Canada. Ground clearance is 139 mm (5.5 in), according to toyota.ca.
