What Canadian shoppers ask

The questions Atlas shoppers bring to the showroom.

Drawn from 1,830 comments on MotorMouth's Atlas and Atlas Cross Sport videos posted since 2023 on the MotorMouth YouTube channel. Question themes sit apart from verified vehicle facts and help prepare a more useful test drive.

01

What is new for the second generation?

Styling is the biggest theme, raised in 369 comments. The 2027 Atlas is 64 mm (2.5 in) longer than the outgoing model with a little more ground clearance, while height, width and wheelbase are unchanged. It has new sheet metal, double-stacked LED headlamps, a flush tailgate and dynamic turn signals with three animations. One viewer wrote after the first look: "VW hit it out of the park yet again. Just like with the new Tiguan. I love the new exterior and interior of the Atlas."

See it in daylight in the colour you want, and compare the standard look with the R-Line design on the Execline R-Line.

02

What does it cost?

Price and value come up in 165 comments. In Canada the 2027 Atlas starts at $53,795 for the Comfortline AWD, $60,995 for the Highline AWD and $63,995 for the Execline R-Line AWD, as listed in MotorMouth's review notes.

Ask for the all-in price with freight and fees, and list the features you want to see which trim includes them.

03

Is the turbo four enough?

Engine and power come up in 335 comments, and hybrid and electric power in 162. Every Canadian Atlas uses the new EA888 evo5 2.0-litre turbo four with 282 hp and 258 lb-ft, 13 hp more than the outgoing model, with an eight-speed automatic, standard paddle shifters and all-wheel drive.

Take this to your test drive

Take it up a highway on-ramp with the family on board, and try the drive modes through the new driver experience dial.

04

How much fuel does it use?

Fuel economy comes up in 62 comments. MotorMouth's review notes list 11.4 L/100 km (20.6 mpg US) in the city and 8.4 L/100 km (28 mpg US) on the highway, better than the outgoing model.

Reset the trip computer at the start of your test drive and include some highway driving to see the figure on your own route.

05

Is it big enough for my family?

Space, cargo and rear seats come up in 63 comments. Third-row legroom grows by 9 mm (0.35 in) to just over 864 mm (34 in), which Volkswagen says is best in class. Cargo space is 600 L (21.2 cu ft) behind the third row, up 17 L (0.6 cu ft), 1,572 L (55.5 cu ft) behind the second row and 2,735 L (96.6 cu ft) overall. A bench is standard, with captain's chairs on the two top trims.

Take this to your test drive

Bring car seats and your usual cargo, and try the third row with the second row set where your family would use it.

06

Can it tow, and is it ready for winter?

Towing comes up in 40 comments and winter driving in 12. Every Canadian Atlas has all-wheel drive and can tow 5,000 lb (2,268 kg). A temporary spare tire is standard.

Take this to your test drive

Bring the weight of your trailer or boat, ask which hitch and wiring come with the trim you choose, and budget for winter tires.

07

What tech comes with it?

Interior and tech come up in 269 comments. A 12.9-inch touchscreen and 10.25-inch digital driver display are standard, with a 15-inch touchscreen available. The console holds two phones on a dual MagSafe wireless charger, there are seven USB-C ports, and Travel Assist offers hands-on semi-automated driving from 0 to 150 km/h (93 mph), now with driver-initiated lane changes. A current owner looked forward to one change: "I'm excited about the raised MagSafe wireless charging because I have an iPhone."

Take this to your test drive

Pair your phone on the test drive, try the new driver experience dial, and ask the dealer to show you Travel Assist on the highway.

08

What comes standard inside?

The redesigned cabin has real wood decor and contrast stitching on all models, leatherette upholstery, a 12-way power driver's seat with four-way lumbar support, heated and ventilated front seats, a heated steering wheel and 10-colour ambient lighting. The shifter moves to the steering column to free up a larger centre console. Available features include Nappa leather, front massage seats, ventilated second-row seats, a head-up display, a 360-degree camera, a 14-speaker Harman Kardon system and a panoramic sunroof.
